What is StreetSmart Edge® and why was it created?
StreetSmart Edge is Schwab’s new flagship software-based trading platform for active traders. It was created because traders need a trading platform that can make powerful tools work intuitively.

StreetSmart Edge is designed to work the way traders think—and allow them to focus on their strategies instead of dealing with complex trading tools. By aligning with a trader’s workflow, StreetSmart Edge offers an advanced trading experience that blends sophistication with efficiency.

I would like to explore StreetSmart Edge before becoming a Schwab client. Is there a demo version?
You can view a series of interactive demos by clicking on the View Demos tab at the top of this page. The demos will guide you through many of the key features of StreetSmart Edge. You’ll learn how StreetSmart Edge’s tools are designed to support your trading strategy, and get a preview of what you can expect.

How much does it cost to use StreetSmart Edge?
StreetSmart Edge is available at no cost to qualified Schwab Active Trader clients. A qualified Active Trader agrees to place 36 trades or more per year. To become a Schwab Active Trader, please call +1-415-667-8400 (from outside the U.S.) or 877-686-1937 (from inside the U.S.).

At Schwab, you’ll get great service with no account service fees and with low minimum balance requirements. You can trade equities online for a flat rate of $8.95,1 trade options online for $8.95 + $0.75 per contract, and trade Schwab ETFs® online with $0 commissions.

What are the minimum system requirements for StreetSmart Edge? How much memory do I need?

I have a Mac®. Can I use StreetSmart Edge?
Yes. Mac users can run StreetSmart Edge by using a Windows® emulator. A Windows emulator is an installed software program that allows computers using the Mac Operating System (OS) to run Windows-based programs. For more details, go to System Requirements.

Can I get real-time balance information and streaming quotes on StreetSmart Edge®?
Yes. You can keep track of your gains and losses, and you can monitor your balances in real time. Additionally, you will have access to streaming quotes and real-time charting.

What types of orders can I place on StreetSmart Edge?
You can place market, limit, stop-limit, trailing-stop, and trailing-stop-limit equity orders. You can also add a bracket to your buy order or existing position. Additionally, you can place various types of simple and complex options orders (using an options-approved account).

I trade options. How does StreetSmart Edge support options trading?
StreetSmart Edge offers streaming Level II options quotes along with max gain/max loss and break-even calculations right in the trading window. Additionally, you can view a vast amount of historical pricing data to assess time impact.

You can also customize the quote function to include option Greeks, midpoint, and more. Plus you can trade basic and multi-leg options with automatic electronic access to all primary listed options exchanges.

What type of charting capabilities does StreetSmart Edge offer?
With StreetSmart Edge, you can create and customize up to 20 real-time charts, each with up to 20 tabs, creating a possible 400 charts to help support your research and strategy needs. You can choose from multiple chart styles, time frames, and technical indicators. You can also synchronize charts by linking them to each other or to other tools.

What is chart pattern recognition?
Chart pattern recognition helps support your decision making by automating pattern recognition of more than 60 chart patterns, indicators, and standard oscillators. You can also set up custom screens and email alerts, and monitor real-time technical analysis. While built into the StreetSmart Edge platform, the chart pattern recognition application is provided by Recognia®, a third-party provider of investment research products.

What are the minimum system requirements for StreetSmart Edge®? How much memory do I need?
To use the advanced features, power, and speed of StreetSmart Edge, please make sure your system (including available memory) meets or exceeds the minimum requirements listed below. For the optimum StreetSmart Edge experience, recommended system specifications are also listed.

System requirements for Mac® users:
Mac users can run StreetSmart Edge by installing a Windows emulator—such as Parallels Desktop® 6 for Mac—and running Windows 7. An emulator is a program that allows Mac OS computers to run Windows-based programs.

My computer doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements, and I’m not ready (or able) to upgrade my system. Can I still use StreetSmart Edge?
StreetSmart Edge was designed to use current software and hardware technologies to make sophisticated and powerful tools intuitive and easy to use.

If your computer doesn’t meet the system requirements and you’re not ready to upgrade (or you’re unable to—e.g., you trade at work), Schwab has another advanced trading platform available exclusively for Schwab Active Traders: StreetSmart.com®.
