Welcome to the Beacon Design System. We look forward to your feedback, designs, and collaboration to help us produce the best possible experience for our users.
We need your contributions
The system will grow and evolve as we add new designs and update/improve existing ones. We want your new designs to be successful and accepted into the Beacon system, and utilized in Schwab products and pages. That’s why we’ve included design considerations below to help you think proactively about important issues to SMEs, and facilitate a smooth review process.

Design considerations
The focus for any new design should be on addressing and solving specific user needs.
- What is the current design status (wireframe, etc.)?
- What are the use cases and best practices, and what testing, if any, has been completed?
- How does this design solve a specific problem or need?
- Does your design meet W3 WCAG 2.1 and color/contrast requirements? Have you considered keyboard tabbing and focus states? Review the Schwab accessibility guidelines.
- Is your design consistent with Schwab brand guidelines for visual style?
- Does the design follow UX best practices?
- Does the design use clear language and support global reuse?
How the process works
We have a simple process to help you submit your designs for inclusion in the Beacon library.
- Email your completed Design Submission form to the Beacon team at beacon@schwab.com. (Note: It’s important to answer all the questions to aid in the evaluation). Include any relevant artifacts (e.g., images, PDF/Sketch files, wireframes, etc.). We’ll reach out with any initial questions.
- Design review: Reviews are done by Brand, UX, Platform, Performance, Accessibility, and other internal partners. Initial reviews typically take 3-5 days, depending on the design phase and complexity.
- Once SMEs have provided feedback, you should incorporate any changes and provide the updated versions. We can help you with these iterations. Before final approval, you’ll want to provide high-fidelity designs with documentation.
- When your design is reviewed and approved it and components isolated, your design will be added to the Beacon library.
