Schwab Personal Choice Retirement Account®3 (PCRA)
If you prefer to determine your own investment direction using a wider array of investment choices than offered in the 401(k) Plan, PCRA may be an investment strategy suited for you. PCRA is for those investors who are diligent about monitoring and managing their investments on a regular basis.
What Is PCRA?
The Schwab Personal Choice Retirement Account is a self-directed brokerage account that can be utilized within the 401(k) Plan and is designed
for sophisticated investors who have a good understanding of the stock market and general knowledge of investment principles. PCRA gives you a broader range of investment choices than those offered in the Core Fund lineup, for example, equities, fixed income, mutual funds, exchange- traded funds (ETF) and more.
Keep in mind that since PCRA is an optional account, you may be assessed additional fees on some of your investments. Please see the Charles Schwab Pricing Guide for Retirement Plan Accounts for more complete details or contact a PCRA Representative at +1.888.393.7272.
How Do I Open a PCRA?
• You can open a PCRA online by logging in to your 401(k) Plan account on workplace.schwab.com. Go to Manage Account and select PCRA Account Open.
• The process of opening a PCRA will take a few minutes, and you will be asked to enter
all pertinent personal information (including information on your state-issued I.D. or driver’s license). If you require additional information
or help during the account opening process, you can contact a PCRA Representative at +1.888.393.7272.
• You can place trade orders in your PCRA as often as you like—online through workplace.schwab.com, through the Schwab Mobile app, or by calling a PCRA Representative at +1.888.393.7272.
Can an Advisor Manage My PCRA?
• While investment advice is not available within PCRA, you may be able to have an advisor advise you on the investments in your PCRA.
• If you already have an advisor, contact them to determine whether their firm is able to advise you on your assets held in your retirement plan account. If so, contact the PCRA Call Center at +1.888.393.7272 to understand what is needed to link your advisor to your PCRA to manage it going forward.
Questions?
If you have questions on how to navigate the PCRA website, how to place a trade or even how to establish your PCRA account, you can contact the PCRA Call Center at +1.888.393.7272 from 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET. They can assist with any questions, inquiries or functionality related to PCRA.
